About Us

Teresa Vanderford is the founder of Olive & Cypress, a CFA and ACFA registered Ragamuffin cat cattery in Northern Virginia. A U.S. Air Force veteran with 23 years of service, Teresa has been a lifelong lover of cats, though her exposure to pedigree animal breeding and care began in childhood.

Teresa's father was a professional dog trainer who bred and trained German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois working dogs for law enforcement narcotics detection, while her family also operated a pet kennel and grooming business. Through those early experiences, Teresa developed a deep appreciation for responsible breeding, temperament, socialization, and the bond between animals and the people who depend on them.

As a veteran, Teresa understands the value of emotional support animals and believes cats are often overlooked in that role. She was especially drawn to the Ragamuffin cat breed for their gentle, emotionally intuitive, puppy-like nature, which inspired her to breed these exceptional companions.

Why Choose Olive & Cypress?

Health First

Each parent is DNA-tested for more than 50 genetic conditions. All kittens receive thorough health evaluations, age-appropriate vaccinations, and preventative flea and deworming treatments. Every kitten also goes home with a complimentary 30-day Trupanion insurance offer for added peace of mind during their transition.

Quality Breeding

We breed with purpose—prioritizing health, temperament, and maintaining the RagaMuffin standard. Our boutique cattery produces a limited number of litters, reflecting our commitment to ethical, intentional breeding. This thoughtful approach ensures our queen is never overworked and every kitten receives the individual care, observation, and enrichment they need to thrive.

Raised with Love

Every kitten grows up in the heart of our home, where they receive daily affection, hands-on socialization, and thoughtful enrichment. They are lovingly introduced to dogs, children, and the everyday sounds of family life, building the confidence and sweetness that make them exceptional companions.

Choosing the Right Breeder Matters

As you explore breeders, be aware that not all cats marketed as "RagaMuffins" meet established breed standards. Reputable breeders will provide registration with the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA), American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA), or Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), along with documented lineage and health testing.

Please note, The International Cat Association (TICA) has not established a formal breed program or standard for RagaMuffins, so they may only be recorded in TICA's household pet category rather than as pedigreed, standard-tracked cats—breeders making claims of full TICA breed registration is something to approach with caution.
