RagaMuffin vs Ragdoll — What's the Difference?

Many people confuse RagaMuffins with Ragdolls — and for good reason. They share a common ancestry, but they are now distinct breeds with important differences. Here's how they compare:

Ragdoll

  • Limited colors: Primarily colorpoint patterns (seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, etc.)
  • Blue eyes only: All Ragdolls must have vivid blue eyes per breed standard
  • Stricter standard: Very specific color, pattern, and marking requirements
  • More widely known: One of the most popular cat breeds in the world
Our Breed

RagaMuffin

  • All colors & patterns: Comes in every genetically possible color and pattern — solids, tabbies, torties, and more
  • Any eye color: Blue, green, gold, aqua, odd-eyed — no color restrictions
  • More genetic diversity: Outcrossed to preserve health and broaden the gene pool
  • Rare & exclusive: Fewer than 30 breeders nationwide — a hidden gem

What They Share

Both breeds are large, affectionate, and gentle. Both have plush, silky coats and are known for going limp when held. Both make wonderful family companions and get along beautifully with children and other pets. The RagaMuffin, however, offers even more variety in appearance while maintaining the same sweet, loving temperament — with the added benefit of greater genetic diversity.

Appearance

RagaMuffins are a large, plush-coated breed with a soft, luxurious feel that is often compared to rabbit fur. Key features include:

  • Large, expressive eyes in a variety of colors
  • Full, rounded faces with a sweet expression
  • Low maintenance, thick, silky coats with a fluffy 'bottle brush' tail
  • A sturdy, well-muscled body that gives them a substantial feel

They come in a wide range of colors and patterns, making each kitten uniquely beautiful.

Temperament & Personality

RagaMuffins are gentle, calm, and incredibly loving. They are known for:

  • Following their people from room to room
  • Greeting you at the door
  • Relaxing comfortably in your arms (many go limp when held)
  • Getting along well with children, other cats, and even dogs

Most Muffins are not aloof or independent in the traditional cat sense—they prefer to be near you and involved in daily life.

Size & Development

RagaMuffins are a slow-maturing breed:

  • They may not reach full size and coat development until 3–4 years of age
  • Adult males are typically larger than females
  • Their coat and overall appearance continue to develop over time

This extended development contributes to their signature plush coat and balanced structure.
